Strand Lane Roman Baths
The remains of a bath, believed in the past to be Roman in date, it is in fact the surviving portion of a cistern built in 1612 to feed a fountain in the gardens of the old Somerset House, then a royal palace. The cistern was redeveloped during the late 18th century as a public bath house, and later during the 19th century was advertised as an ancient structure of 'Roman origin'.
