St Mary Nunnery Wall

The only surviving above ground visible ruin of The Augustinian nunnery of St Mary Clerkenwell, London.

This piece of wall is located behind a little fence in the section of park/churchyard to the north west of St James's Church (below the raised west church door entrance area).

The wall was the south wall of the south cloister and also the north wall of the original nunnery church on this site. On the wall can be seen some of the vertical stone mouldings leading up to the vaulted ceiling of the cloister.

Behind this wall the remains/burials from the church crypt were reinterred when the crypt was cleared/rennovated.

Date: 12th Century.
