St Anne's Limehouse Crypt
The crypt of St Annes Church, Limehouse, London.
St Annes Limehouse is one of Nicholas Hawkmoors six great East London churches. The foundations were laid out in open fields in 1712 during the reign of Queen Anne.
The crypt contains several burial tombs. The eastern third has been rennovated and is used by the local community. During the Second World War the crypt was used as an air raid shelter and contains 1940s toilets and sick bays.
Care For St Annes are working hard to raise funds to convert the unrennovated part of the crypt so that it may also be used by the local community with the WWII parts preserved as a educational feature.
