Royal Arsenal Gridiron Slipway
Former Royal Arsenal slipway, Thamesmead. Known as The Gridiron, it was used to load large guns onto barges and these were then shipped to test ranges at Shoeburyness. Combined weight of the railway wagons (known as proof-sleighs) and the guns could be 200 tons - 2 barges were in operation - called Gog and Magog.
