Hotchkiss Six Pounder QF Gun

Located on the south east curtain at Tilbury Fort, Essex.

From the information sheet: "In April 1885, this became the first British Quick-firing (QF) gun to enter service with the Royal Navy. It was soon adapted for use in coast defences. From the later 1890s it was gradually replaced by the heavier 12-pounder fulfilling the same role. The 6-pounder was designed to enable rapid aiming and firing against the fast torpedo boats then entering service with the world's navies. "

Date: 1885 onwards.
