Blackfriars Barn And Cellar, Winchelsea
A ruined structure, representing the remains of an early 14th century medieval building with an undercroft (cellar) of three chambers. On the north wall of the rear chamber significant incised medieval ship graffiti has been recorded.
This was a tenement of some importance; the size of the building might suggest it was a guild or court hall. It seems to have fallen into disuse relatively quickly and by the early 16th century the building was a ruin. It was converted into a barn during the 19th century. It is listed Grade II and is a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
