Ankerwycke Trench 1 - Week 2

Trench 1 at Ankerwycke targeting possible cloister identified during geophysical survey. Trench is located north of upstanding chalk wall remains and south west of the Ankerwycke Yew. This is the Trench at the end of week 2 of our community archaeology excavation. You can find how it looked at the end of week 1 here: https://skfb.ly/owxpC

The primary research question of #AnkerwyckeDig22 was to identify whether the cloister could be indentified north or south of the upstanding remains (https://skfb.ly/owxVL). This trench was succesful in answering the research questions and has increased our understanding of the Nunnery at Ankerwycke.

714 photos taken in July 2022 with a Sony a7R III and a DJI Mini 2 and processed in Reality Capture. Photography and model by David Fletcher (@artfletch). Permission and access by the National Trust and James Brown.

The trench was two thirds in shadow and one third in bright sunlight therefore there is a colour and brightness difference between opposite ends.
